Montclair Scholarship Fund awards $361k in scholarships to college-bound seniors
June 29, 2022: The Montclair Scholarship Fund has awarded $361,743 in scholarships to 48 college-bound Montclair High School seniors this year.
The scholarships were awarded June 9 during Senior Awards Night at Montclair High School.
The total award amount for 2022 is approximately $100,000 more than in 2021 — the result of several new named scholarships and a generous community response to the annual appeal, according to a press release from the Montclair Scholarship Fund.
Awards of $7,000 or more were given to 23 students. Awards between $5,000 and $6,000 were given to 22 students, and three students received scholarships between $500 and $3,000.
Fourteen of the awardees will attend public colleges in New Jersey — Rutgers, Montclair State University, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, the College of New Jersey and Essex County Community College. The other 34 students will attend private colleges in New Jersey or colleges out of state.
Eight of the recipients are the first members of their family to attend college, according to the press release.
General donations to the Montclair Scholarship Fund accounted for $155,000 of the awards, and $206,743 came through named scholarship awards, which are managed by the Montclair Scholarship Fund using individually directed donations as well as sustaining funds, the press release said.
